In 1944, F.A. Hayek first published “The Road to Serfdom” in the United States. Today, a photo and a post at “Loaded Orygun” (which I perused via a link at “Oregon Catalyst“) reminded me of what Mr. Hayek had to say with regards to the conflicts between fascists and communists within pre-1933 Germany.

Here’s the Photo:

Anarchists and Socialists Eat Babies

Here’s a sampling of the Loaded Orygun commentary:

I hate everything you stand for. You make me sick to my stomach with your lack of shame and scruples. You are invertebrate scum whose moral compasses are just short of bone dry.

Crawl back under your rocks and do what you do best…bitch about the world and how bad everything is..and then do absolutely nothing to fix it. Whiny scumbag crybabies..all of you.”

And, here’s what Mr. Hayek had to say,

It is true … that in Germany before 1933, communists and Nazis or Fascists clashed … with each other … [competing] for … support of the same type of mind[, they] reserved for each other the hatred of the heretic …[T]heir practice showed how closely they are related. To both, the real enemy … whom they had nothing in common, … whom they could not hope to convince, is the liberal of the old type [Emphasis mine. Wikipedia — Classical liberalism stresses … human rationality, individual property rights, natural rights, constitutionally limited government, civil liberties, free markets, and individual freedom from restraint]. While to the Nazi the communist, and to the communist the Nazi, and to both the socialist, are potential recruits … made of the right timber … they both know that there [is] no compromise between them and those who really believe in individual freedom.”

The “Loaded Orygun” commentary may deserve the benefit of doubt here in that it’s vitriolic rant could be reaction to the confrontational viewpoint of the anarchists; but is it not possible that “Loaded Orygun” is reacting to a guilt-ridden pang of responsibility or worse, a recognition of the face in the mirror?
